Sufi shrines can play an effective role in promoting national unity, peace, and religious tolerance, said Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani.

The teachings of the Sufis convey messages of love, tolerance, humanity, and service to mankind, he added.

Islamabad (Izhhar Khan Niazi) – Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani met with the custodians and caretakers of various renowned shrines and khanqahs across the country, where they discussed matters related to national unity, interfaith and intra-faith harmony, promotion of social values, and public welfare.

The delegation included Pir Syed Amjad Ali Shah Gillani, Sahibzada Mian Umar Bakhsh, Syed Anwar-ul-Hassan Pir of Mararah Sharif, Syed Akmal Hussain Shah, Syed Mazoom Ghaffar, Malik Asghar Hussain, and Mian Muhammad Shabbir. The delegation informed the Senate Chairman about the issues faced by the public in their areas and the social and welfare activities of the khanqah centers.

Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani stated that khanqahs and the teachings of Sufis have played a significant role in Pakistan’s cultural and social history. The teachings of Sufis, based on love, tolerance, humanity, service to mankind, and unity, continue to be a guiding light for society today.

He emphasized that khanqah centers can play a positive and effective role in promoting national unity, peace, religious tolerance, and social harmony. The efforts of khanqahs and shrines for the moral and social training of youth, education, and service to humanity are commendable.

The delegation stressed the need for joint efforts to promote peace, brotherhood, tolerance, and camaraderie in the country.
