A two-day training workshop on effective reporting on climate change and pollution was held in Islamabad, with participation from journalists across the country, including those from the Badin Press Club.

Islamabad / Badin (Correspondent) In an effort to promote responsible and effective journalism related to climate change, environmental crises, pollution, and natural disasters, a two-day training workshop was organized by the Pakistan Red Crescent Society in collaboration with the German Red Cross. Journalists from across the country, including the president of the Badin Press Club, Shaukat Memon, vice president Imran Abbas Khwaja, senior journalist and analyst Abdul Razak Katti, and others participated and successfully received certificates after training on climate change, pollution, natural disasters, climate risks, and related journalistic reporting.
During the training workshop, journalists were informed about the impacts of climate change, environmental pollution, human crises arising from natural disasters, timely identification of climate risks, prevention of fake news and misinformation, and various aspects of responsible and fact-based reporting on sensitive environmental issues. On this occasion, journalists from Badin shared their practical experiences of reporting on environmental pollution in the Indus Delta and coastal areas and engaged in detailed discussions on the serious environmental issues facing Badin district, including coastal erosion, the effects of climate change in coastal areas, water scarcity, pollution, and problems arising from natural disasters. Participants stated that Badin district has long been affected by sea storms, floods, droughts, coastal erosion, and the impacts of climate change, thus increasing the responsibility of local journalists to highlight environmental issues effectively based on research, evidence, and public hardships rather than limiting them to news coverage. The efforts made by journalists from Badin to highlight climate and environmental issues at the national level were also appreciated during the workshop. Participants expressed their commitment to utilizing the new skills and knowledge gained from the training workshop to make reporting on climate change and pollution more effective, responsible, and in the public interest.
At the closing ceremony, participants were awarded training certificates. Journalists from the Badin Press Club expressed their determination to continue their journalistic role vigorously in highlighting the issues faced by people affected by climate change, environmental pollution, and natural disasters, and to convey their voices to relevant authorities and institutions.
