Islamabad (Crime Reporter): A 61 percent reduction in overall crime and a 39.3 percent decrease in serious crimes were recorded in Islamabad during the first six months of 2026.

The effective performance of the Islamabad Police has significantly reduced the crime rate in the federal capital. Modern policing, Safe City surveillance and intelligence-based operations played a key role in this achievement.

“Providing a safe environment to citizens is our foremost responsibility,” said Islamabad Inspector General of Police Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi.

According to details, a significant decline in the crime rate was recorded in the federal capital during 2026. Compared to the same period in 2025, overall crime decreased by 61 percent while serious crimes declined by 39 percent during the first six months of 2026.

According to the Islamabad Police, the significant reduction in crime is attributed to intelligence-based operations, continuous and effective policing, and the modern surveillance system of Safe City, which now covers almost all areas of the federal capital.

The statistics were reviewed during a high-level meeting chaired by Inspector General of Police Islamabad Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, which was also attended by other senior police officers.

The meeting conducted a detailed review of the overall law and order situation in the federal capital, anti-crime measures, investigation performance, the Safe City surveillance system, intelligence-based policing, emergency response, and ongoing operations against organized criminal groups, proclaimed and habitual offenders, illegal arms holders and drug dealers.

IGP Islamabad Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi attributed the significant reduction in crime to an effective policing strategy based on “Prevent, Patrol and Pursue.” He said that preventive policing, intelligence-based operations, effective patrolling across the city and the modern surveillance system of Safe City played a key role in the timely detection of crimes and the immediate arrest of suspects.

He further said that the Investigation Wing of the Islamabad Police had also demonstrated outstanding performance in tracing suspects and successfully resolving important cases on the basis of merit, modern scientific evidence and professional expertise.

While appreciating the performance of police officers and personnel, IGP Islamabad Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi said that the significant reduction in crime was the result of the professional expertise, tireless efforts, dedication and sense of duty of Islamabad Police officers and personnel.

He reiterated that the Islamabad Police would further improve preventive policing, expand intelligence-based operations and further strengthen the Safe City system. He said that the investigation of every major case was conducted on merit and strong, solid evidence-based challans were presented before the courts so that suspects could be punished in accordance with the law.

The IGP Islamabad also reiterated that protecting the lives and property of citizens, ensuring the indiscriminate enforcement of the law, providing timely justice and keeping Islamabad among the safest cities in Pakistan are the top priorities of the Islamabad Police.
