We will continue to cooperate to enhance the capacity of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly in legislation and parliamentary affairs, said the Speaker of the National Assembly.

Islamabad (Izhār Khān Niyāzī) – Speaker of the National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq stated that the National Assembly is committed to further strengthening parliamentary ties with the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly, and cooperation will continue to enhance the capacity of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly in legislation and parliamentary affairs.

He expressed these views during a meeting with Deputy Speaker of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly Malik Kifayat ur Rehman at the Parliament House. The meeting discussed parliamentary cooperation between the National Assembly and the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly, matters of mutual interest, and enhancing collaboration in the field of legislation.

The Speaker of the National Assembly congratulated Malik Kifayat ur Rehman on his election as Deputy Speaker and expressed best wishes for success in his new responsibilities. Malik Kifayat ur Rehman thanked the Speaker of the National Assembly for his good wishes and cooperation.

Sardar Ayaz Sadiq emphasized that training programs for members and staff of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly under the Pakistan Institute for Parliamentary Services are extremely important, as such programs contribute to enhancing the capacity of legislative bodies and promoting parliamentary traditions.

He stated that the Speakers’ Conference serves as an effective platform for communication, consensus, and exchange of experiences among legislative bodies, and cooperation between parliamentary institutions can be further promoted through this forum.

The Speaker of the National Assembly remarked that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor is a game-changer project for the development and prosperity of the region, and Gilgit-Baltistan holds significant potential in terms of geographical importance, mineral resources, and tourism. There is a need to modernize the mineral resources sector and ensure public participation in this process.

Sardar Ayaz Sadiq noted that the Diamer-Bhasha Dam is a crucial project for the national economy and social development, as such projects will help meet the country’s energy, water, and economic needs.

During the meeting, Deputy Speaker of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly Malik Kifayat ur Rehman thanked the Speaker of the National Assembly for his congratulations, good wishes, and cooperation, and emphasized the importance of further strengthening ties between parliamentary institutions.
