 Sheikh Abdul Wahid, the president of the Traders Association of Liaquat Road Rawalpindi, expressed deep sorrow and regret over the tragic incident of a fire at PIMS Islamabad that resulted in the deaths of 14 newborns, stating that this is not just an accident but a serious national tragedy that has raised many questions about safety measures and administrative negligence in hospitals.

Sheikh Abdul Wahid said that the loss of innocent children’s lives is an irreparable shock for the entire nation. Merely expressing sorrow and condolences is not enough; it is commendable that Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has ordered the suspension of 8 individuals, including the Executive Director, based on the investigative committee’s report regarding the fire incident in the nursery of PIMS Hospital (Islamabad) and has directed criminal action against them. The preliminary investigation of the PIMS tragedy has also highlighted serious deficiencies related to fire safety and emergency arrangements. He emphasized that fire safety systems, emergency exits, fire alarms, trained staff, and emergency response systems in public hospitals must be made effective immediately so that no family has to face such an indescribable tragedy in the future. Sheikh Abdul Wahid extended heartfelt condolences to the parents and families of the deceased children, praying that Allah grants them patience and places the innocent children in His mercy. He stated that it is the government’s responsibility to provide safe and quality medical facilities to the public and that there should be no compromise on safety measures in major national institutions like PIMS.
