Chairman of the Higher Education Commission, Dr. Niaz Ahmad Akhtar, inaugurated a modern theater hall at Allama Iqbal Open University.

Islamabad (Staff Reporter) – The Chairman of the Higher Education Commission, Dr. Niaz Ahmad Akhtar, inaugurated a theater hall equipped with modern facilities in the academic complex of Allama Iqbal Open University to promote knowledge, literature, cultural, and creative activities. The modern theater hall will provide students with an effective platform for expression, creativity, fine arts, and cultural activities alongside their academic education. The ceremony was attended by Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Nasir Mahmood, faculty members, and principal officials. The first event in the theater hall was the launch of the book “Teacher Education in Pakistan” by Professor Emeritus and distinguished educationist Dr. Manzoor Sultanah Mirza, which was presided over by the Chairman of the HEC, Dr. Niaz Ahmad Akhtar. Dr. Niaz Ahmad Akhtar stated that a capable, trained, and principled teacher is essential for quality education in Pakistan. He emphasized that a teacher should not only be a custodian of bookish knowledge but also a practical example and role model for their students, parents, and society. In light of the changing educational demands, continuous attention to the academic, teaching, and professional training of teachers is necessary. He remarked that “Teacher Education in Pakistan” is a highly important book that provides guidance on understanding the education and training of teachers, their roles, and key aspects of their professional development. He urged teachers and education-related individuals to benefit from studying the book.

Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Nasir Mahmood praised Professor Dr. Manzoor Sultanah Mirza for her academic and teaching services, stating that she is a credible academic reference and a visionary personality in the field of education and teaching. He noted that “Teacher Education in Pakistan” is a manifestation of her academic insight, experience, and intellectual efforts, and is a valuable academic asset for those involved in education. The ceremony also featured speeches from Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Education Hassan Taqleen, Parliamentary Secretary Rabia Naseem, Professor Emeritus and former Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Mahmood-ul-Hassan Butt, and Dr. Afshan Huma, who all recognized the book as an important academic endeavor on the subject of teacher education and training in Pakistan, and praised the scholarly and research contributions of Professor Dr. Manzoor Sultanah Mirza.
