Rawalpindi (City Reporter) The monthly meeting of the Hamdard Council was chaired by Speaker Imtiaz Haider at the Hamdard Center in Rawalpindi, under the topic proposed by the National President of Hamdard Foundation Pakistan, Saadia Rashid, titled “Film, Theatre, and Drama: Effective Means of Social Reform.” The guest of honor was senior director, producer, and playwright Asma Ismail Butt. In her message, Saadia Rashid stated that film, theatre, and drama have a profound impact on society’s thoughts, values, and character building. In the past, Pakistani dramas and films reflected our culture, family traditions, and social issues effectively, but today’s creations are increasingly marked by unnecessary boldness, superficiality, and Western imitation, which contradict our cultural and religious values. It is essential to use performative communication for national development, moral training, and positive social change. Guest of honor Asma Ismail Butt and Speaker of the Hamdard Council Imtiaz Haider remarked that a quality film, purposeful drama, and effective stage performance can change the thoughts of millions. The founder of Hamdard, Shaheed Hakim Muhammad Saeed, considered the moral and intellectual training of youth as the foundation of national development, believing that strong character is the basis of a strong nation. Film, theatre, and drama can be effective means of character building for the nation. When film and drama present themes such as truth, integrity, justice, tolerance, respect for parents, dignity of women, education, service to humanity, patriotism, and national unity with artistic skill, they not only entertain but also promote character building and social awareness. If film, theatre, and dramas are used to promote knowledge, awareness, ethics, and goodness, they can serve as tools for nation-building. Other members of the Hamdard Council also expressed their views, including Professor Niaz Muhammad Irfan, Zahid Ali Qureshi, Dr. Riaz Ahmed, Hakim Bashir Berwi, Tariq Shaheen, Salma Qasir, Naeem Akram Qureshi, Islamuddin Qureshi, Tanveer Nasrat, Engineer Muzaffar Iqbal, Professor Iqbal Nasri, and Muhammad Ayub Advocate. At the end of the meeting, the guest of honor was presented with a commemorative shield “Live Safely” by Amanullah Niazi, Zonal Head of Hamdard Foundation Rawalpindi.
