A detailed discussion on the promotion of sports, issues in sports journalism, encouragement of young athletes, and mutual relations between Pakistan, China, and Japan.
Peshawar (BBC Bureau Report) Khalid Khan, the BBC Report Bureau Chief in Japan, met with Malik Amjad Aziz, General Secretary of AIPS Asia, President of the Pakistan Sports Writers Association, and Chief Patron of China Window, in Peshawar. Senior journalist Azmatullah, a former president of the Peshawar Sports Writers Association, was also present at the meeting.
During the meeting, various issues were discussed in detail, including the promotion of sports across the country, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the challenges faced by sports journalism, encouragement of young athletes, international relations in sports, and the positive role of media.
Malik Amjad Aziz expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Khalid Khan for visiting Peshawar and touring China Window, stating that Japan has proven its capabilities in the field of sports, just as in other sectors. Japanese athletes are achieving significant successes globally in various sports, including football, volleyball, hockey, martial arts, and swimming, which serve as an excellent example for Pakistani youth.
He remarked that if Pakistani children adopt the hard work, discipline, and consistency that Japanese children embody, they too can establish their talents on a global level and bring honor to their country and nation.
Malik Amjad Aziz noted that there is immense talent in sports among the youth of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa; however, continuous support, modern facilities, training, and opportunities to participate in international competitions are necessary to nurture and introduce this talent globally. Government and private institutions must collaborate to create opportunities for young athletes to fully express their abilities.
He added that sports are not only a healthy activity but also an effective means of strengthening relations between countries worldwide. The ties between Pakistan, China, and Japan in the fields of sports, culture, and media can be further strengthened, providing new opportunities for the younger generation.
On this occasion, Malik Amjad Aziz, the Chief Patron of China Window, expressed his commitment to further expanding the sports, culture, and media relations between Pakistan and China, stating that China Window will continue to play its role in this regard. He emphasized the need to enhance connections with various institutions and organizations to provide international opportunities for the youth of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Malik Amjad Aziz also praised the services of the Peshawar Sports Writers Association, highlighting the important role of sports journalists in the positive and responsible coverage of sports. Sports journalists not only convey the achievements of young athletes to the public but also provide them with role models, fostering interest and passion for sports in the new generation.
Khalid Khan, on this occasion, welcomed the meeting with Malik Amjad Aziz and the visit to China Window in Peshawar, stating that the media will continue to play a positive role in promoting sports and highlighting the talents of youth in Pakistan. He noted that developed countries, including Japan, have achieved significant status in sports through planning, discipline, and continuous effort, from which Pakistan can learn a great deal.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides agreed to continue joint efforts to encourage young athletes, promote connections among sports journalists, and further highlight Pakistan on the global sports stage.
