 Sheikh Abdul Waheed, president of the Traders Association of Liaquat Road Rawalpindi, expressed deep sorrow and regret over the tragic incident of a fire at PIMS Islamabad that resulted in the deaths of 14 newborns, stating that this is not just an accident but a grave national tragedy that has raised numerous questions about safety measures and administrative negligence in hospitals.

Sheikh Abdul Waheed said that the loss of innocent lives is an irreparable shock for the entire nation. Merely expressing sorrow and condolences is not enough; it is encouraging that Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has ordered the suspension of eight individuals, including the executive director, based on the investigative committee’s report regarding the fire incident in the nursery of PIMS Hospital (Islamabad) and has directed criminal proceedings against them. The preliminary investigation into the PIMS tragedy has also highlighted serious deficiencies related to fire safety and emergency arrangements. He emphasized that fire safety systems, emergency exits, fire alarms, trained personnel, and emergency response systems in government hospitals must be made effective immediately to prevent any family from facing such an unimaginable tragedy in the future. Sheikh Abdul Waheed extended heartfelt condolences to the parents and families of the deceased children, praying that Allah grants them patience and places the innocent children in His mercy. He stated that it is the government’s responsibility to provide safe and quality medical facilities to the public and that there should be no compromise on safety measures in major national institutions like PIMS.
