Faculty professional development is the key to improving educational quality: Vice Chancellor

Islamabad (Staff Reporter) The three-day Content Development Workshop has begun at Allama Iqbal Open University. The aim of the workshop is to prepare quality, effective, and modern teaching materials aligned with the university’s educational programs and to enhance the professional capacity of the faculty. Speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony, Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Nasir Mahmood stated that faculty professional development is the key to improving educational quality. He emphasized that quality educational materials are of fundamental importance in the open and distance learning system, thus making it essential to prepare effective and quality teaching materials considering students’ needs, educational priorities, and modern teaching requirements. He noted that continuous training for teachers, awareness of modern teaching methods, and enhancement of professional skills play a crucial role in further improving the university’s educational standards. The workshop is organized by the Center for Lifelong Learning. The Center’s Director, Tuba Saleem, outlined the goals and objectives of the workshop, stating that the purpose of this training activity is to familiarize faculty members with the preparation of quality teaching materials, unit development, and modern methods of effective educational writing. She mentioned that during the workshop, participants are being informed about the practical and technical aspects of preparing teaching materials so that content can be developed for the university’s educational programs that is useful, comprehensive, and aligned with modern educational requirements. JICA representative Abid Gul stated that quality educational materials play a fundamental role in the success of distance education systems. He praised the organization of the workshop, noting that such training activities contribute to enhancing faculty professional capabilities, improving teaching quality, and preparing educational materials in accordance with modern requirements. On the first day of the workshop, participants were introduced to course outlines, unit assignments, and unit writing guidelines, while practical exercises were also conducted regarding the preparation of various unit materials and finalizing the complete unit structure. Participants engaged in various stages of unit writing and worked on the fundamental principles and practical requirements necessary for preparing quality teaching materials. It is noteworthy that this workshop is an important link in the ongoing training series aimed at enhancing the professional capacity of the faculty at Allama Iqbal Open University, aligning teaching quality with modern requirements, and preparing quality educational materials.
