Somalia’s National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) delegation, led by Director General Mr. Abdi Wali Ali Abdullah, visited NADRA today to further advance the partnership that has been ongoing since 2018. The visit was conducted with the support of the United Nations Development Programme. UNDP Pakistan’s Resident Representative Mr. Samuel Rizk and Deputy Resident Representative Ms. Van Nguyen were also present on this occasion.

The Chairman of NADRA welcomed the delegation and provided a briefing on Pakistan’s identification system and digital public infrastructure. Both sides agreed that identification is a fundamental national infrastructure that strengthens the social contract between the state and its citizens and contributes to enhancing civic engagement, financial inclusion, and public trust. Various areas for joint work to further strengthen the identification and registration systems of both countries were also identified and discussed.

Both sides appreciated the role of the United Nations Development Programme in promoting cooperation among developing countries and reaffirmed their joint commitment to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those related to legal identity and civil registration.
